May. 19th, 2012 11:22 pm Today was really hit and miss. -__-;
Today was shit because:
....this morning I got a HUGE bill from a debt collection agency for a house I haven't lived in in 5 years. Now, I've been over this a dozen times today with about 6 different people, so the long and the short of it is this:
- they claimed I owed £3800 for a month's line rental (this includes exorbitant late fees).
-even though I paid a final bill at the time and sent them a notice of termination, they claim the termination request arrived later than it should have done, so the line was not cancelled when I left the property.
-because of the contract I had with them at the time, that put me on to a new full-year contract with them.
-because I have no paperwork from that far back I can't prove that I did indeed pay them and that the letter was sent well before I moved out.
- the statue of limitation for debt runs for six years, so I am still legally liable for it.
-after many long phone calls to both BT and the collection agency I talked them down to £120- still a fuckton more than I would like, but at least manageable.
-I have agreed to pay them on a monthly basis.
...and then I got bollocked by my Dad for not telling them I would see them in court, even though I am pretty damn sure that I would lose that battle and end up owing the entire amount. >_>; You know, on account of me not having any paperwork and them having a rolling contract in my name (which they are sending me a copy of, incidentally.)
So yeah, it was a shitty morning, and by the time I found out that denying the debt for another year could wipe the slate clean, I had already gotten on the phone with both BT and the debt collection company to discuss it, thus acknowledging it. >_<; So not only am I angry and frustrated about the whole thing, I also feel really fucking stupid.
But.....
Today was awesome because:
I went out for lunch with Clair, Charlie, and our little gang of friends for a pre-emptive birthday lunch, and then I spent the afternoon watching 'Legend of Korra.' Which I am very impressed with, incidentally- I adored the 'Legend of Aang', and I was worried about the follow-up, but it's all good. ^__^ And I totally want a pet fire weasel. Of course.
It was a nice way to come down after my collosally horrible morning, and even though the pub we went to had stopped doing baked potatoes (which I was banking on for my diet), I did thoroughly enjoy my huge and greasy burger with goat's cheese. As my group leader said at the last group: a birthday happens once a year, so why worry? So I'm not worrying. ^__^ Not this time.
Tomorrow I am going to the supermarket to stock up on better food. I am looking forward to this, for some reason. Just another sign of me getting disturbingly domestic. XD
