Crappy Day
Jan. 22nd, 2013 05:25 pmSo, today has been pretty crap. I found it very hard to sleep last night, so have been tired all day, and the lectures I got up early for were useless. This whole unit is being conducted through the main campus at Bournemouth, and despite the days there being very, very busy, nothing they are 'teaching' us is actually relevant to the unit. We are supposed to be learning about research methods, but so far we have hat 6 unrelated lectures by members of staff telling us about the results of research they have done. And I mean literally JUST the results- no mention of how it was carried out, or why they picked a particular method... literally nothing that we can use.
This has been mentioned to the university many time, and they continue to claim that students in previous years *loved* the unit and found it to be *perfect*, and we just need to work harder. It is very, very frustrating.
And then to cap it off, when the coach dropped us back to Portsmouth my friend Amanda and I (she was giving me a lift home) were accosted by a very aggressive man complaining that we had parked in front of his house when it was a residents' only parking area. Now, we have been parking in that road for the last 2 years without incident (not even a note on a windscreen), but we did say to him that we were sorry and it wouldn't happen again. We were both polite, obviously- generally speaking, neither she nor I are particularly antagonising people, after all. Apparently that wasn't good enough, though, because he then tried to block me from getting in the car, stood outside the driver's side door glaring at Amanda in a very threatening manner, and when I did get in tried to block me from closing the door. All the while telling us we had cost him a day's work for blocking his drive, when in reality the drive was clear. The car was outside his house, but his claim that he couldn't pull out was a blatant lie. He also threatened to report us to the police and the local high school (not sure why- we did tell him when he asked that we were student midwives) and his general demeanor was incredibly unpleasant. It was actually very frightening.
Thing is, I have never seen a sign in the area saying that it's residents only, and my understand was that in areas where that is the case, cars can be ticketed and even clamped/towed if residents complain. That's certainly how it works down our road, which is in the same city and covered by the same council. Not that I'm saying we might not be at fault- I actually don't know- but even if we were, I'm not sure waiting by the door to yell at strangers was the right way for him to handle it. -__-; I dunno. Maybe my opinion is bias because I was the one being yelled at and it wasn't even my car, or my decision to park there (when offered a free lift I can't say I have ever really considered where we park- I admit, I am useless, and just assume my friends know what they are doing).
It definitely wasn't something I needed today. I'm also worried that maybe I aught to let the university know what happened, seeing as the guy knows we are student midwives and might well complain. Or would bringing it to their attention make it look worse than it is? I dunno. >_<;
In Other News:
I have just started playing Path of Exile.
http://www.pathofexile.com/
It's currently in closed beta, but the open beta starts in a few days and it will be completely free to download and play for anyone who likes the look of it.
It's basically the 'real' Diablo 3- same style game as Diablo 2, but instead of it being all cartoon-ified and bright like D3 was, it has a really nice dark, gothic feel and a colour palette that is more subdued and brooding than a lot of recent fantasy games. It is also hard, but the kind of hard that feels like a challenge rather than feeling like the game designers hate their players. >_> It's a subtle difference, but a noticeable one. The music and atmospherics are also amazing.
The game isn't finished yet, but if you liked Diablo 2 then I recommend it. It's not like you can waste money trying it out! ^__-.
