misguidance: (Bored)
You know, I really wish that the people would leave me to enjoy things.

And by 'people' I mean pretty much everyone- my friends, my co-workers, but even strangers, too.  And by 'enjoy things'... well, I really mean just that.

It's like no-one can stand to see anyone else enjoying anything.  I get a lot of pleasure from a wide variety of things- books, games, cartoons, art... all sorts of stuff.  But if I share my interests with people, you know what I inevitably get?  'Oh, here- wanna see some porn of that?'  'Did you know that author and/or artist was an (insert undesirable rumour here)?'  'That game is shitty because of this, and if you don't agree with me I'm just going to keep on saying it.'  'You like (something)?  In that case, I'm going to call you (random rude name) because that's funny.'

Seriously.
About everything.

And I'm not just talking My Little Ponies here- that one I can kind of take.  But it's a good example of what I mean- half my pony-friends keep trying to send me porn or gore-based fan-fiction of the series because apparently that's hilarious.  My non-pony friends mock me relentlessly about it, even in conversations about completely unrelated topics.  It's gotten to the point where, other than Rory and Christy, I just don't mention it except with one other person.  And even she occasionally tries to get me to watch fan videos on youtube which are definitely not in the spirit of the source material.  It's like no-one can get their head around the idea that I kind of love Ponies the way it is.  I don't want to make it super-over-the-top adult, or ruin the innocence of it by making it something sexual (in any way at all, thanks).  I like it for what it is, and I would really love it if that could just be left alone

And like I said- it's not just Ponies.  Skyrim, which I can't talk about to most of my gaming friends without being called a 'fanboy' because... well... I don't hate it.  I don't think it's a flawless game, no, but I enjoy it.  I would like to be able to play it without being constantly bombarded with e-mails 'proving' that it's a bad game, or being harassed in person to play 'proper' games like Dark Souls (which I have to say, I hate.  I've tried it and it is exactly NOT my kind of game.'

Oh, and apparently I can't even watch TV shows without being harassed, either.  I have recently started watching 'Defiance', and as soon as I mentioned it I was immediately pursued via e-mail and facebook private messages by 4 separate people, 2 telling me it was shit and I should watch 'Firefly' instead (I like Firefly, have seen the whole thing in fact.  And yes, I do prefer Defiance, though that doesn't mean that Firefly is bad), one asking me if I was watching it for the hot alien women (er, no thanks, I'm a lot more into guys and YOU KNOW THAT) and another just generally taking the piss because I enjoy Sci-fi and should watch 'Game of Thrones' instead.  Which I do.  And I prefer the book.  Probably worth mentioning that of the 4, I think 1 of them may actually have watched the show.  The others?  Apparently me actually enjoying something gets under their skin, so they want to make me hate it.  I honestly can't think of any other reason why people would be so intent on sending unpleasant, unsolicited messages about what someone else decides to watch on TV.

Actually, books too- I've already mentioned Game of Thrones, which is one I often find myself being unable to enjoy again thanks to some of my so-called friends.  I have two friends in particular who have started calling me a hipster because I read the books years ago, and very much prefer them to the TV show.  Now, I like the show.  I really do.  I just don't think you can get the same level of complexity into a series that you can into a book, and some of the actors are... well.. not quite how I imagined the characters.  I watch the show whenever the chance arises, and I don't go out of my way to talk about the book.  But no- apparently because I gave an honest answer when specifically asked which I prefer, I must now suffer on-going insults and abuse about it whenever the subject of the show OR book comes up.  And you know what?  I'm sick of it.

I really wish people would just shut the fuck up- or at the very least, get the damn hint when I tell them that I'm not interested in seeing [random fandom porn / bad fan-fic / gore picture / humanised animal character / offensive parody picture].  No, I don't want to listen to you telling me how gay all the characters in He-Man are, or speculating over who's doing who in the Power Puff Girls.  I'm not a furry because I enjoyed watching Bucky O'Hare (and still have the comics.)  Neither am I a furry for playing old Sonic the Hedgehog games.  Just because I use mods on Skyrim doesn't mean I want to hear about you modding Tomb Raider so you can see Lara's tits.  No, I didn't decide to play (whichever) character in that game so I could look at their ass.  I'm not a weeabo because I have a few anime series that I enjoy, and no, I don't want to see porn of those characters either.

Actually, I don't want to see porn of anything.  If I want to look at porn, I'll find it myself, thanks, and really- it isn't a task I want to share will random people.

All I want, I swear to the Gods, it to be left the fuck alone to enjoy what I enjoy.
Is that really so fucking hard to understand?
