misguidance: (YAY)
Soma has been rescued from Customs- he will be arriving home on Monday (if everything goes to plan...)  Again- a HUGE thank you to everyone who bought my stuff. ^_____^.

In Other News:
Today I got to be a scrub nurse, and assist the surgeon who was doing c-sections.  :D It was amazing- I wasn't doing anything dangerous (so no need to panic!), but he asked me to hold the retractors while he was suturing, and I got to work the suction machine.  Which is a lot more fun than it probably should be.   I also got to see ovaries in their natural environment, and got remarkably up close to someone's uterus.  I am normally quite squeamish, but for some reason it didn't bother me at all.  I think it was just too interesting for me to get worried by it. XD

The actual scrub nurse was really nice to me, and taught me how to scrub up and put on a sterile gown and gloves correctly.  I am pleased to say that I did not balls it up.  We did 3 c-sections today (2 emergency ones, one planned) and it all went well.  3 lovely babies born, and lots of hard work... but it was totally worth it.   Tomorrow I get to receive babies, which is where I stand to one side and take the babies directly from the surgeon when they are born.

I think I will still always be a community midwife at heart, but I think this placement will go a long way towards making me feel more comfortable with the idea of operative birth.  And that's a good thing- if I am at home in a theatre, then I will be able to care better for women who need a c-section.  And that can happy to anyone so it's something I need to be prepared for.
