misguidance: (warpath)
 So, I ventured out of the house today (despite having flu) to get weighed (half a pound off! Yay!) and do some essential shopping and pay some bills.  Because, you know, that stuff can't wait just because I'm unwell.  It's not like I have anybody who can do it for me, after all.

On the way back I went past one of our local second hand shops, and noticed that they were selling an exercise bike for £15.  It's an older bike, but that's a good deal and I have wanted one for a while.  Basically, I only exercise when walking to/from Uni, or when I am at work.  I used to go walking and stuff like that too, but recently I have been too tired and in the past, people have called me names and made fun of me because I am fat.  Because clearly, a fat person who is out exercising to reduce their fatness is blatantly worthy of scorn, right?
Anyway, I decided to get the bike.  I want to have the option to exercise indoors on days when I either can't face going out or don't have much time.  Being able to jump on exercise bike for ten mins before bed or something like that will be ideal, and now that my room is tidy (and has remained tidy for a while) I actually have the space to keep one.

So, I had to carry it home.  It was only a five min walk, but the bike is heavy- it's a solid metal job- and I am ill.  It probably took me about 15mins to get it home.

Twice during that time I was verbally abused and made fun of by men in cars.  One guy- a taxi driver- slowed down to follow me down the road so he could call me names, which included 'fat sack of shit', 'diabetic waste of space' and some other choice phrases which suggested that my size was offensive to him.  He only drove away when I put the bike down and got out my phone, and took his picture.  I also managed to get one of his number place.

Needless to say, as soon as I got in I phoned the company advertised and reported his number place and a description of what he had done.  I reported the same to the local non-emergency police line.  About half an hour later, I got a call back from the police saying they had had a word with the guy at a local taxi rank.  About an hour after that, I got a call from the company assuring me that he had been fired, because the police had called them looking for him, which made them take the whole thing a lot more seriously.  (Because apparently the word of a member of the public just isn't good enough....)

So yeah.  I got a guy fired today.  But you know what?  I don't actually feel good about it.  I feel angry, because it's 100% unacceptable for people to think that they can abuse strangers in the street over anything.  ANYTHING.
The fact that this guy thought it would be fun to berrate a fat person for daring to be fat, in public, is despicable.  The fact that they decided to taunt me over being unfit while I was carrying a fucking exercise bike is just down right stupid.  And you know what?  And all that from a guy who was probably only one or two stone smaller than I am, who was in a car, with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth.

I did not need this today.
He probably didn't either, but hey- he brought it on himself.

And I still feel like crap.  I'm amazed I actually lived through carrying that thing at all, given how weak I've been this week. >_>;
