Bonsai update
Feb. 19th, 2014 02:20 pm So, the (still unnamed) bonsai tree decided to be a butt and has developed some brown spots on some of its leaves. I have checked pretty much every picture of privet hedge/tree leaves I can find on google, and none of the usual offenders like parasites or disease look like what mine has. I suspect they are just last year's leaves, and even though privet is an evergreen they do eventually drop old leaves. >_>; The fact that the leaves affected are spread out and the rest of the tree looks healthy would seem to confirm this, so I'm just going to keep an eye on it.
Also, last night I noticed a very light growth of a white fungus on the potting soil around it. Some research shows that this is 1. harmless to humans, 2. harmless to the tree and 3. the result of having to keep the soil damn like privet enjoys. -__-; It is unsightly, though, so after some research I am treating it with a dilute vinegar solution, which should apparently clear it up.
Other than that, it is still putting out shoots and looks well. I have turned it around a few times to try and give each side an even amount of sun, and I have found a local place that offers bonsai care lessons, which is cool. I will probably take it there in the next few months to get it repotted, because I am 99% sure it has lived it's whole life in this one pot, and it is probably rootbound.
Seriously though- caring for this tree is almost as much effort as having an actual pet. >_>;
In Other News:
Apparently I will find out tomorrow if I have passed or failed my last exam. If I have failed.... bugger. I will have to resit it in a few months and the results will be capped at 40%. Waiting for these results is part of why I am being so apathetic with the rest of my work, I think- I am SO stressed out about it all. -___-;
