So, this morning I was very stupid and dragged myself into town to go to Games Workshop. It's the Warhammer 40K 25th Anniversary celebration, which means limited edition stuff that are sold on a first come, first server basis. As a long-term player and general Games Workshop fan, I would have been there even if they had to wheel me on a stretcher, but as it was I managed it and was even lucky enough to get some decent loot! ^__^ Which partly makes up for the fact that I missed the Warhammer Fantasy celebration in 2007.... >_<;
Charlie, Martin and myself arrived at the store at about 9 (not by arrangement- we happened to meet up on the way in) and there were already 4 people waiting outside. We were actually early by accident- the store opened at 10- so we went to the pub where they had fried breakfasts, and I had a pint of flat coke (yay!) When we went back at 9:45 there was about 10 people waiting, and by opening time there were another 20 or so behind us! I have never seen the store so busy before!
The best thing, though, was that they only had 16 of the special limited edition model that GW released for the event. It was possible to pre-order it, but most people didn't bother or didn't know it was possible (like me.) And when the doors opened? The first guy in- who was not a regular or even someone the staff had seen before- tried to buy 5 of them. Ger, the manager, told him it was one each only and he pitched a fit, but didn't get his way. Because Ger is basically sane, there were just enough for those of us who got to the door quick enough, and I was lucky enough to get the last one. <3 Happy is a shallow word for how that felt, incidentally- after feeling so ill for the last few days and generally have a crappy time, it was really, really nice to get the model. I mean, yes, it IS a space marine, but I can't really hold that against it and I am looking forward to painting it up for display at some point.
If you're wondering, here is the Games Workshop press release page for today's events:

I got one of everything- the badge (which is now on my university lanyard), the bracelets, the mouse mat (ok- I didn't even really want that but Ger waved it at me and I nodded anyway), and the poster, which is nicer quality than expected. None of it was as expensive as I had expected (I spent just over £30 in total, including the £20 for the model), and the badge was free! XD
By the time we left at 10:30, they were sold out of everything except the bracelets and the mousemats, I think. I assume they kept a few back for the competitions later in the day, but the badges were literally handed out to the first people into the sore until they ran out, and I think the posters were just more popular than expected.
In Other News:
Of course, there was a massive downside: I am now EXHAUSTED. -__-; I nearly passed out on the bus on the way home, and when I got in I had to sleep for a good 2 hours before I could do anything again. I have managed to eat today (well- I had a bowel of soup) so I think my appetite is coming back, but I am SO DAMN TIRED now. ;__; I will probably spend the rest of the day snoozing or watching DVDs.
My plan is to be back in uni by Monday, because the more I miss the harder it will be to catch up. But really, that depends on how I feel at the end of tomorrow. >_>; If I don't feel like I can spend the day awake in class, then I just won't go. There would be no point, and it would just be a waste of everyone's time.
Also, the carpet 'cleaner' has left weird brown marks all over my carpet, which kind of look like shit stains. The smell is gone, but damn... >_<;
